John Donne: Poems Lesson Plan

Reading Assignment, Questions, Vocabulary

Today's assignment is designed to give students an overview of the variety of John Donne's tones and styles, and includes some of his most iconic poems:

-"Batter my heart" (Holy Sonnet 14)

-"To Sir Henry Wotton [Sir, more than kisses, letters mingle souls]"

-"Death, Be Not Proud"

-"The Sun Rising"

-"The Bait"

Based on each poem, have students write a line or two about what sorts of topics Donne writes about and what kind of poet they think he is.
