"Farewell, Siegried, son of King Siegmund. You will never get to Worms."
Mimes says this to Siegfried as the young man leaves his apprenticeship as a blacksmith and chooses to go the route to Worms. Mimes knows there is danger that lies ahead as there is a dragon laying in wait.
"Spare my life and I will make you the richest king on earth."
Alberich, the King of the Dwarves offers Siegfried all of his treasure in exchange for his life, but it is a trap in an attempt to kill Siegfried.
"King Gunther, let the dragon slayer go his own ways, don't welcome him here!"
The King's highest ranking official does not want Siegfried to enter the King's castle. He believes that Siegfried is a dangerous man who will try to steal his crown.
