City of Incurable Women Irony

City of Incurable Women Irony

Dancing and having joy

The reader learns that Salpetriere is a city with a history of women's coercion. The photography described by the narrator shows a city where women are subjected to subjugation and neglect. Sarcastically, the city is also described as unique because of its dancing culture. Experts such as doctors, scientists, and artists dress like monks to dance and drink regularly. Therefore, it is paradoxical that a city full of suffering women is full of entertainment.

Dr, Charcot

Dr. Charcot is up on his professional game because he is famous for accurate diagnoses. Most people in the city love him, and they think he is born to live forever because his service to humanity is priceless. However, Dr. Charcot never knew that when he died, his body would be the property of the state to be used as a case study for medical students. Upon his death, Dr. Charcot's body was put to lie in state for several days for his patients to study him. It is interesting how life is a paradox because a person deemed a savior is now lying lifeless.

Despair

One of the main touches of sarcasm in the novel City of Incurable women is that doctors are no longer interested in treating women. The reader understands that women in the city suffer from complicated situations such as spiritual enthusiasm and anorexia, but doctors can offer mental diagnoses to help the women live better. However, it is satirical that doctors are no longer interested in helping women recover.
