Case Study Characters

Case Study Character List

The narrator

The narrator is the protagonist, an unnamed young woman whose ambition to find the truth about her sister's death is astonishing. Veronica died after she threw herself off the bridge. However, the narrator does not believe that story and, after reading the case study by Braithwaite, strongly believes that he is behind her sister's death.

The narrator wants to investigate her sister's death, and the person on target is Braithwaite. However, before meeting him, the narrator changes her name to Rebecca Smyth to hide her identity. At this time, the narrator is no longer the shy girl but a bold character ready to suss the truth out of Braithwaite about her sister's death.

Veronica

Veronica is the narrator's older sister, but she took her life when she decided to throw herself off the bridge. Her father loved Veronica, and she was often called seen as an extension of him. Sadly, despite being bold, it is hard to comprehend why she decided to commit suicide. However, the narrator believes Braithwaite is responsible for her sister's death.

A. Collins Braithwaite

Braithwaite is a charismatic psychotherapist whom the narrator strongly believes is responsible for the death of Veronica. However, the only way for the narrator to confirm her claims, she must disguise herself as a client and organize a meeting with Braithwaite. She changes her name and meets him, but her experience suddenly changes into a nightmare because things get more complicated. The unnamed author also throws his interest in Braithwaite, discovers that he is careless, and treats his clients without attention, which might be why Veronica never made it under his care.

Mr. Grey

Mr. Grey is a pseudonymous character, which the author relies on to build his story on Braithwaite. At the begging of the book, the author receives a series of notebooks from Mr. Grey talking more about the case studies on Braithwaite. An unknown narrator investigating her sister's death writes the various notebooks sent by Mr. Grey.
