Tracker is a mercenary and a hunter with a mysterious sense of smell. Distance and time are incapable of limiting his sense of smell. The rare mystical gift has earned him fame and people greet him by acknowledging his nose. The entire story is characterized by flashbacks where Tracker tells his narrative to a cross-examiner. Tracker begins by telling his side of the story about the disappearance of a certain boy. The protagonist insists that the boy is dead but he is not culpable. Many people use Tracker to track their lost people but the search of the said boy baffles him.
Tracker has befriended people with their own unique mystical abilities. Leopard is a shape-shifter and is also hired to search for the disappearance of the lost boy. Over the years, Tracker has vowed to conduct the missions of tracking people alone. However, the search for a lost youngster obliges him to break his own rules due to the boy’s significance. The search for the lost boy is not the only task given to Tracker. So many people including a merchant and a queen hire him to track important people in their lives.
The narration continues and Tracker informs his questioner about a certain moment he wanted to get circumcised. When the circumciser appeared, Tracker refused to be circumcised after contemplating how he cuts women out. Finally, Tracker gives details on how he killed a girl who had stolen a baby and invaded her family to eliminate them because they were involved in illicit business. Throughout the book, the main character gives out different versions of the stories that are hard to believe.
