Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo Imagery

Tranquilizer to Bullet

Kev says, "Starts out with a tranquilizer dart. Ends with a bullet." The imagery goes from a sedative, non-lethal action through the imagery of tranquilizer dart, to the destructive and life-ending capability that comes from the word bullet. Death is felt in these simple sentences.

To see

The tiger is killed and now exists as a ghost outside of its body. It says that it has existed its whole life and never known what it looked like. This imagery reveals that we don't know who we truly are until we come to the metaphorical or literal end of ourselves and able to see ourselves clearly.

Gold everywhere

Kev describes the Hussein palace as having literal gold everywhere. This idea is further driven home when we see the golden gun, which he has stated he will kill Musa if she tries to take it. The imagery of the gold gun evokes the reality that this power was corrupt and continues to corrupt this soldier as he seeks his portion of the "settlement".

Toilet Seat

Tom comes back to enlist Kev's help in regaining golden items from the Hussein palace. One is a golden toilet seat. This imagery connects the nature of a toilet, which is designed simply to dispose of urine and feces, with gold, which is highly prized and sought-after. We know that what Tom is after may seem to be worth going after, but in reality has no lasting value for the price they will have to pay in order to obtain it.
