Biography of Tommy Orange

Tommy Orange is a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes of Oklahoma. He was raised by his white mother in Oakland. He received an MFA from the Santa Fe Institute for American Indian Arts (IAIA), the epicenter of what critics are calling the new “Native Renaissance” of literature, and where he later returned to teach. He was a competitive roller hockey player as a young man, and he took an interest in literature while working in a bookstore after college. Orange currently lives in Angels Camp, California with his wife and son. There, There is his first novel.
