Biography of E. Lockhart

E. Lockhart is the pen name of American author Emily Jenkins, who is best known for writing illustrated children's books and young-adult fiction.

Born in New York City, Lockhart went to Vassar College and attended graduate school at Columbia University. She has a doctorate in English literature; her focus was on the nineteenth-century British novel and the history of British book illustration.

Lockhart began writing seriously at age twenty-two and published her first novel, The Boyfriend List, in 2005. She has since published over forty books and has been nominated for dozens of awards, winning the Cybils Award for Best Young Adult Novel and the Goodreads Choice Award for Young Adult Fiction. In 2021, DC Comics published the YA graphic novel Whistle: A New Gotham City Hero, which features a superhero Lockhart invented.
