The title, The Fire Next Time, is actually a line from a slave song (spiritual) titled “Mary Don’t You Weep.” In context, the actual lyrics ,“God gave Noah the rainbow sign, / No more water, the fire next time!” are an allusion to the Bible, which refer to both the Book of Genesis and a specific moment in The New Testament.
