How did you first learn about Rice University, and what motivated you to apply?


“O-Week, Beer Bike, & The Rest—we know Will Rice is the Best!”

Returning for the holidays, my friend had incessantly been repeating Will Rice cheers before I even knew what Rice, much less residential colleges, was. But maddening as they were, these cheers quickly motivated me to research her school.

Though I have yet to meet my residential family, Rice’s emphasis on residential colleges is a tradition I already love. O-Week, an event that is planned an entire year in advance, instills an allegiance to a specific residential college from day one. By enrolling at Rice, I know I’ll be joining a family where I will meet hundreds of siblings that push me to streak in Baker 13, represent our college during Beer Bike, and partake in “jacks” I can only dream of pulling off.

But Rice doesn’t just house me with a frenzied, friendly family, it provides me with an intellectual environment that enables me to pursue all my aspirations and to create new ones. With courses like “Appropriate Design for Global Health” but also “Religion and Hip Hop,” Rice offers so many opportunities to gain a rich understanding of the diverse world we live in.
