Lewis and Clark Supplement

Lewis and Clark College is a private college with a public conscience and a global reach. We celebrate our strengths in collaborative scholarship, international engagement, environmental understanding and entrepreneurial thinking. As we evaluate applications, we look for students who understand what we offer and are eager to contribute to our community. In one paragraph, please tell us why you are interested in attending Lewis and Clark and how you will impact our campus.

Sitting in the Templeton Campus Center, I looked out through the square, geometric windows at the trees beyond. The simply shaped white metal frames of the window contrast with the trees hugged by moss. Lewis and Clark in itself is a contrast. Meriwether Lewis, the astronomer, and William Clark, the biologist, had distinct qualities that amalgamated together to create an incredible discovery and research project. Similarly, Lewis and Clark College is an eclectic combination of possibilities. At Lewis and Clark College, I will work through my own differing facets to become a distinctive and complete person. I want my education to produce a version of myself that is involved in both anthropology and ceramics: someone who steps out of her comfort zone to try out for the play even though I’ve had no previous experience and someone who travels to Valparaiso, Chile for a study abroad. Lewis and Clark College gives me the opportunity to be dynamic; it is a vibrant community centered on the person as a whole. I wish to attend Lewis and Clark College because, remembering the view from the windows in Templeton Campus Center, I want to be enriched by contrast.
