Sophie
Despite the fact that James cheated on her and allegedly raped another woman, Sophie stands steadfastly behind James. If one person admitted to and were accused of such awful acts, their significant other would invariably divorce them or separate from them.
James
James seemingly has it all. He is financially successful, has a loving wife and wonderful kids, is handsome, and is in a position of importance and power. However, he is accused of committing a heinous crime unbecoming of someone of such high stature.
Kate
Kate, who is the lead prosecutor in James' criminal case, doesn't disclose her ties to James despite being bound by strict ethical and moral rules. Beyond that, if her connection to James ever came to light, James' conviction (if it ever came to that) would be thrown out.
Prime Minister
Despite the Prime Minister having only a cursory involvement with James' situation, he is removed from office that he holds.
James' Innocence
While James and Sophie were in college together, James treated Sophie similarly to how Olivia said he treated her (e.g. calling her a "prick tease"). Despite that, Sophie wholeheartedly believes in James and believes that he is innocent.
