The title of the book implies that the novel is concerned with American culture and values. The title becomes ironic because Rashad , the protagonist, has all the traits of what an American boy should have. He is smart, strong, athletic, good-looking....Unfortunately he will never be seen as American, by the white dominated system, because he is black.

The title of the book means that rashad is balck and is not an americaaaan YEEEEHAAAAaaWWWW. That's at leat my opinion *shrug*

Explain the title, All American Boys. What does it mean? In your opinion, does it accurately describe the events and relationships portrayed in the novel?

As the novel closes, Spoony and Berry read a roll call of real names of black people killed by police. Why is it important for them to read these names out loud? What was your emotional response to the novel’s closing? Are you familiar with any of the names? Choose one victim and find an article to read to find more information. Use your knowledge from the article as one piece of evidence.

As he tries to convince his mother why it’s essential for them to protest the crime against Rashad, Spoony tells her, “But Ma, all we want is to feel like we can be who we are without being accused of being something else. That’s all.” How does Spoony help Rashad? How can you relate to what Spoony is saying? In your opinion, why should this be a fundamental right for everyone?
