This question calls for your opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. In my opinion, O'Brien withheld this information based on his daughter's age, in addition to the fact, it wasn't something he was comfortable sharing period. Many soldiers do not speak of their experiences during war unless they're conversing with someone who has shared these types of experiences firsthand.
