    Salva's first few weeks in America are overwhelming and bewildering. What are some of the differences he notices between Rochester and South Sudan? What are some other things you think might have been confusing or difficult for him?

    Salva is surprised to find that there are no dirt roads in Rochester, only paved ones. There is also electricity in every building, snow on the ground for weeks, and more white people than he has ever seen. There are many more things that were probably difficult or strange for Salva.
