Feyre Archeron, a nineteen-year-old huntress, carries the heavy burden of supporting her once-wealthy but now struggling family.
One winter day, while hunting in the forest for food, she spots a deer, only to realize that a large wolf is also stalking it. Suspecting the wolf might be a faerie, known to be dangerous to humans, she makes a quick decision. Using her only ash arrow, a weapon known to kill fae, she shoots and kills the wolf. The next day, a terrifying beast comes to her home and reveals that the wolf she killed was a faerie. He tells her that she must either die or go with him to Prythian and live out the rest of her life.
In this story, the themes of sacrifice, love, and bravery are significant. Feyre promises her dying mother to care for her siblings and gives up her childhood to feed her family as a hunter. She agrees to live in Prythian, a Fae kingdom. Though it belongs to the enemy, she accepts her punishment to keep her family safe. She makes sure they are well cared for, even without her. Once Tamlin assures her that her family is now wealthy, Feyre finally begins to focus on her own life.
Feyre shows great bravery by completing Amarantha's dangerous tasks to save Tamlin and the faeries. At first, she dislikes the fae but gradually lets go of her prejudice and begins to understand them. She learns to love and sees herself as more than a hunter. Tamlin helps her rediscover her passion for painting. Eventually, she dies to save them, but Tamlin uses his magic to bring her back, and she is reborn as a High Fae.
Feyre's journey shows that selflessness, bravery, and love can change everything. These qualities help her grow from a simple hunter into a powerful Fae because she stays true to herself and chooses the right path.
