A Christmas Dream, and How It Came to Be True Themes

The Theme of Sharing

Sharing is a dominant theme throughout the text. Effie is tired of the Christmas routine because it has repetitive events such as eating delicious meals, receiving gifts, and having fun. According to Effie, Christmas is about sharing with the poor and making them happy. Effie asks her mother to organize her gifts and share them with the poor children. Consequently, Effie's Christmas dream comes true when she gets many gifts and shares them with poor children to put a smile on their faces.

The Theme of innocence

The Theme of innocence is illustrated by Effie's childhood concerns and emotions. As much as she is a young girl, Effie believes all human beings should be treated fairly. The mother understands her daughter's concerns, and she challenges her if she would love to be poor and a beggar without a home and food. Effie innocently accepts that she prefers to be a beggar and happy instead of rich and bored. Therefore, the reader realizes that Effie is innocent, but she has valid concerns that if well utilized, she can make the world better.

The of understanding

Effie's mother is depicted as an understanding parent who engages her daughter in a candid conversation about Christmas. Effie is a young girl who expresses her opinions freely without fear because she knows her mother is ready to give her the best answers. When Effie's mother listens carefully to what Effie is saying, she understands that Christmas should be about remembering the poor. Therefore, despite Effie being a young child, she engages her mother in a mature conversation that ends positively.
