    Rycker is described as a tall, hunched man, and he instantly comes off as pushy and invasive. He demands that Querry come to his house, orders his wife around, and insistently pries into Querry's private life. Rycker strongly adheres to Catholicism, but he is clearly hypocritical in his religious practice.
