    Updike on Easter

    Kind of Activity:

    Classwide Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will read another one of Updike's writings on Easter to illuminate their understanding of the story.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.2

    Structure:

    While Easter is clearly important in this story (used in the title and mentioned frequently), its significance/meaning is somewhat vague. In this activity, students will learn more about Updike's personal views on religion and Easter to inform their analysis of the story.
