How did Silver allay Jim's suspicions? What did the Squire and the Doctor think of Silver?

Silver admits to having seen Black Dog before and confirms that Pre is the blind man. He then promises to run down Black Dog ans says that he will go to the Squire and Dr. Livesey himself. As a result, everyone believes Silver to be an honest man.
