Bulbospongiosus muscle:
This muscle is located in the superficial perineal space.
It acts to expel urine from the urethra after the bladder has emptied. It also aids in the erection of the penis and the clitoris. In males, it expels semen during ejaculation. In females it constricts the vaginal opening and expels secretions of the greater vestibular glands.
Origin is on the perineal body and median raphe (of penis). It inserts on the sheath of the root of the penis (males), and onthe pubis symphysis (females). Innervation is supplied by the pudendal nerve.
