    Literary Quotations

    Research and analysis


    To identify and understand the many references embedded within Bradbury's text


    The text of Fahrenheit 451 is laced with literary quotations and references, from Dover Beach and Ecclesiastes to single lines that are quoted sans context or identification.

    Divide students into small groups and allow each to choose an outside quote from anywhere in the novel. Each group should identify their quote or reference (for those unnamed in the text, a quick Google search will do the trick) and the context in which it is cited. Then they should investigate the original context.
