For many, school is a routine. Most young people thrive on routine, and only have problems if that routine is broken. The girls had no constancy and were afraid, going to school would afford them a change of scenery, expectations, and a break from thinking about things they couldn't control. They were also in a situation where they had moved..... school would have provided friends their own age.
