why is ann keeping a journal

It seems as if Ann brgins her journal in order to mark the chages that occur after Mr. Loomis comes to the valley. The journal is something (someone) she can talk to and confide, and it is a record of her actions. It is a record for others who may come after her. After all, of Mr. Loomis could appear in the valley.... so might others.
