    Thus far, all of the chapters in White Noise have been fairly short. Why is Chapter 21 so long? What is the effect of the chapter's length? How does the length advance the themes of the section?

    Chapter 21 is the longest because it follows the key moment of the novel, the Airborne Toxic Event. The extended length shows how much the event controls the character's life, both building on something they've been thinking about up until that point and haunting them afterward.
