Early in the story Billy 's father says :" there is more to an education than just reading and writting." How does his statment apply to Bill? What kind education does the boy receive during the course of the story?

Billy learns about hard work and determination. Billy embodies the American ethos of independent initiative leading to reward and recognition. These are usually character traits that are built out of grit and personal initiative rather than learned in a classroom.
