Billy's grandfather's bragging serves to spread the word about Billy's dogs. Grandpa's pride of Billy and the dogs increases their reputation and provides them with new opportunities. Old dan and Little Ann become known as the best hunting dogs in the Ozarks....

On the downside, Grandpa's bragging also leads the Pritchard boys to challenge Billy..... something that results in the accidental death of Rubin Pritchard.
