What is the relationship between religion and the One State? How does this relationship differ from that which might be found in a democratic society?
Based on D-503's characterization of life in the One State, some students might be tempted to label the One State as a kind of secular theocracy. Not only does its citizenry glorify the Benefactor as they would a god, but they adhere to the official ideology of the One State rather like a religious cult would.
