Life was completely different for teenagers during WWI. Unless wealthy, most all teenagers worked. They worked at home, they worked the farms, and they helped in family businesses. Some went to school and worked when they got home. Social time was generally spent at home with the family. The teens didn't hang out after school, didn't text, and had no phones to make plans. Many teenagers went to war.
