What was the influence of Mahatma Gandhi upon Bakha

Bakah is filled with hope but also confused by Gandhi. He likes what Gandhi says but is confused how any of it can come about. He doesn't, for example, understand how a flushing toilet works and can magically end the plight of the untouchables.
