What was the reason/purpose for Dale Barbie to kill Julia's husband and bury him?

I still have not figured out why he was killed and it is driving me bonkers.  It was obviously not pre-conceived.

Dale Barbie was attempting to collect a debt from Julia's husband when Peter pulled a gun on him. Needless to say, Barbie wasn't the one who ended up buried in the forest.
