U.A. Fanthorpe: Poetry Background

U.A. Fanthorpe was an English poet who graduated from St. Anne's College, Oxford. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and winner of the Queen's Gold Medal for poetry, Fanthorpe was highly praised for her work. Her most famous publications include Side Effects and From Me To You: Love Poems. These poems follow a wide variety of themes, ranging from love to overcoming lifelong difficulties.

Born in 1929 as Ursula Askham Fanthorpe, she published under the name "U.A. Fanthorpe". Born in London to a modest middle class family, she stated that her love for writing - espcially poetry - was ignited after she went to college in Oxford. In 1987, Fanthorpe began freelance writing, which helped her work reach a broader range of people across the globe.
