No, Mitch really isn't happy. Mitch reflects on his life and realizes that he isn't doing the things that really make life worth living. After his uncle died of cancer of the pancreas, Mitch surrendered his dream of being a musician for becoming a well-paid journalist for a Detroit Newspaper. He had promised his wife, Janine, they would have children but he worked too hard away from his wife to fulfill this promise. Mitch was living for his job and money, which made him unhappy.
