Minnie Foster used to be more outgoing and excited about life before she was married, "She used to wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster, one of the town girls singing in the choir." After she got married Minnie became isolated, withdrawn and sad. She had nobody to talk with besides her abusive husband, Neighbours were miles away and she was basically trapped.
