Why was captain smollet concern about voyage?

Captain Smollett does not trust the crew and the first mate. He felt that he should have been able to hire his own crew. . He also is upset that he has not been given information about why they are going on this voyage. He has gathered that there is treasure involved but is angry that he learned it from his own crew. He is also kept in the dark about the ship's destination.
