what is the main character's problem in the beginning of the story?

Jim Hawkins's father had recently died. The boy and his mother were left to run the "Admiral Benbow,” a small inn. A notorious pirate comes along named Black Beard. There is a map and of course some buried treasure. The initial conflict is running this inn and the intimidating Black Beard causing Jim and his mom stress.
