what did benn say would happen if the pirates camped ashore?

chapter 19 when benn was talking to jim about the message he wanted to deliver he mentioned what would happen if the men camped ashore.

He says that if the pirates camp at shore there will be a bloody war.

Wild horses wouldn't draw it from you? No, says you. And if them pirates camp ashore, Jim, what would you say but there'd be widders (widows) in the morning?"
