The story takes place during the eighteenth century. The setting is near Bristol, England, and Treasure Island, an island off the coast of “Spanish America”. The mood is reflective of the setting. This is an adventure novel with pirates and treasure. Robert Louis Stevenson gives us escape fiction with colourful characters that might very well have existed, in some form, at the time.
