In Chapter 1 of Tracks, Nanapush is relating events, in story form, to his granddaughter Lulu. What is the purpose of this? How is the way Nanapush tells his story different from how Pauline tells hers? What is his motive versus Pauline’s?

The purpose of Nanapush's talk with Lulu is to provide her with information about the tribe's past, the challenges they endured, and most of all to encourage her to make contact with her mother. Nanapush is like a grandfather to Lulu, and he is concerned about her marrying the wrong man.
