Why doesn't Cole feel sorry?

In the beginning, for:

*burning the shelter

*destroying the supplies

*hurting Peter Driscal

Cole isn't sorry at this point in the story because he still sees it all as being all about him. Cole believes himself to be the martyr, and he still blames everyone else for what he's done. Until he can understand he is responsible for his own action..... he'll place the blame on others.
