What are three examples of when Cole was honest or forgiving

We do not see the honest forgiving Cole until the latter part of the book. Even though Edwin leaves the spark plug in the motorboat, Cole does not try to run away. Towards the end of the book, Cole lets Peter mistreat him to help Peter let go of his pain.
