Why does Atticus agree to be Tom Robinson's defense attorney ?

Atticus defends Tom Robinson because it's the right thing to so. He believes in justice and equality, he believes that everyone has the right to a fair trial, and he believes in the TRUTH, and he believes that every person can make a difference.
