To Kill a Mockingbird

Why did Jem freak out on Scout when she asked him about hitler and why it isnt okay to hate anyone when you are rude to them right at home?

I never fully understood why he got so upset with her. What was the reason behind it? is it because he is trying to be like atticus?

Jem is still very upset and confused about race relations and anything to do with the trial. Jem is trying to work things out when Scout broaches the subject of racism with him.
