Why did Bob Ewell try to kill the Finch kids?

He tried to kill them because he lost the court case in which he raped his own daugher Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson was shot in the court room after he was convicted of raping Mayella.... he tried to run but didn't get far before being shot.
