Mayella accused Tom of rape in order to blame him when her father caught her attempting to seduce him.

So why does she say that? Was she trying to protect her dad from going to jail?

Mayella's attempted seduction of a black man would have been the worst of infractions. She did what her father told her to do, and she told the lies he forced her to tell.
