The black's of the neighbourhood had given a mountain of food and sweets to Atticus. Even though Tom Robinson had lost his case, the black people of Maycomb showed their gratitude to Atticus the only way they knew how and with the only things they had. Atticus was touched but told Calpurnia to tell them to never do it again. Atticus knew that the people barley got by feeding their own families; this gesture was overwhelming.
