To Kill a Mockingbird

What is your reaction to Sheriff Tate's "findings" in the death of Bob Ewell? If you were the Sheriff, how would you have handled explaining the death of Bob Ewell?

THe truth isn't always the best policy. Sometimes it needs to be bent to serve a higher cause. In this case Sheriff Tate was correct. THe publicity would have killed Boo Radley. Boo was a fragile mockingbird. The spotlight would have hurt him. It was much better for the world to think crazy Bob Ewell fell on his own knife. Even Atticus understood this in the end.
