What is the importance of the last sentence in chapter 4?

It said by Scout that, "Someone inside the house was laughing."

The fact that "someone was inside the house laughing," makes Boo a real, living being.... not simply a story based on rumors and very inventive imaginations. The fact that Boo laughs belies everything they've believed.
