Scout is well ahead the average child in Maycomb in terms of intelligence. For that matter, she is well ahead of the average adult in Maycomb. Scout can read, write, and problem solve better than most kids her age. She is able to process information and be critical of it as well. In many ways she has the intellectual traits of her father. Scout can reason and see the world beyond the confines of Southern society.
