What does Mr.Tates testimony reveal about his character?

Mr. Tate is honest and straight forward. Heck is no fan of Bob Ewell yet he tried to state the facts without showing bias. He felt for Tom and I always thought the whole situation saddened him. In many ways he was like Atticus, just a little more pragmatic and less intellectual.
